madd Parkland chapter received a request from the friends of the victim of a suspected impaired driving collision. In April 2019 an off duty Lac Ste Anne County fire fighter was killed in a collision. Friends of the victim were looking to hold an awareness and educational event to remind drivers how important it is to never drive impaired.
In September 2019 near Alberta Beach, AB the madd Parkland Chapter, in conjunction with the RCMP and Sheriffs from the Capital West Integrated Traffic Unit, Lac Ste Anne County fire department, Lac Ste Anne Peace Officers and the general public, held an impaired driving "Checkstop" to honor the fallen fire fighter. Motorist were stopped and given educational resources from madd Canada and saferoads. Awareness was built and the event was a success. Additional events are currently being planned for December in various rural communities.
