There are many causes of motor vehicle collisions in Alberta, but the sad truth is that many collisions could have been prevented. Listed below are just a few of the major causes of injury collisions. Have you ever done any of these?
Followed too close 28.2%
Ran off the road 16.7%
Left turn across path of oncoming vehicle 12.5%
Stop sign violation 8.6%
Disobeyed traffic signal 7.4%
Failed to yield right-of-way to pedestrian 4.1%
Left of centre 3.5%
Improper lane change 3.0%
Improper turn 2.8%
Backed unsafely 2.7%
Yield sign violation 2.1%
Failed to yield right-of-way at an uncontrolled intersection 2.0%
Improper passing 1.4%
Speeding is also often a contributing factor in many of these events. Slow down and stay safe.
